Health and Physical
Education
Curriculum Scope and Standards
Health and Physical Education is concerned with
holistic human development, emphasising the contribution of physical activity
to growth and functioning; the establishment of a positive self-concept and
relationships; and the achievement of optimal health in individuals and
communities. As a consequence this Learning Area is organised around three
strands that are developed progressively across the Bands of schooling. These
are:
- physical
activity and participation
- personal
and social development
- health
of individuals and communities.

Physical Education
Aldinga Primary School provides specialist PE
programs for the Early Years, Primary Years, and the Middle years. Students
work towards developing new skills and coordination, an understanding of
teamwork, and the importance of being active.
In addition to specialist physical education lessons
and daily fitness programs run by
classroom teachers, there is opportunity for children to participate in
additional sporting activities throughout the year, such as sport clinics.

SAPSASA (South Australian Primary Schools Athletics Sports
Association)
At Aldinga Primary School we actively encourage older
students to become involved in the SAPSASA program. The school provides
opportunities for students to represent the school in sports such as soccer,
netball, football, athletics and beach volleyball and to try out for the
various sporting district teams. This encompasses Year 5-7 students and
parents can be involved in coaching, team management and transporting students
to selection trials and other events.
Active After School Communities – throughout the year students have
an opportunity to become involved in activities after school. Activities to
date have included cycling, basketball, wheelchair sports, broom ball, circus,
skateboarding and belly dancing.
