About the School

The original Aldinga School was opened in 1856.  In 1980 the school was moved to a new site and the building was opened in 1981. The school celebrated 150 years in 2006.  The current enrolment is stable (approximately 480-500 students) and housing trends indicate growth in the coming years.

Our Schools’ Vision and Mission Statement:

An optimistic community working together to embrace lifelong learning.

The core business of Aldinga Primary School is to provide an inclusive, quality education for students R-7.  This is provided through the teaching of skills, knowledge and understandings within the eight required areas of study in a supportive learning environment.  Literacy, Numeracy and Student Engagement and Wellbeing are our areas of focus.

The school has a number of structures in place to support students from a range of diverse and sometimes disadvantaged backgrounds, including a full time Counsellor, Christian Pastoral Support Worker, an Aboriginal Community Education Officer and a Mentoring Program. Special Education Support is provided and significant School Support Officer hours are also used to implement programs, such as Speech.

Literacy Intervention programs are provided through the use of additional SSO hours which provide support for students R-7. The Aldinga Breakfast Club Program runs two mornings a week.

Student Wellbeing is a major focus.   A school-wide Behaviour Development Policy exists to ensure consistency in Yard and Classroom Management. This is based on the five School Values and negotiated Codes of Conduct.

Student Voice is a priority area, with all R-7 classes having a representative attend fortnightly meetings. R-7 Young Leaders and the ‘be active Student Team’ play a major role in increasing student participation in the School’s decision making processes.

Special activities include Sports Day, Active After School Communities Programs, BookWeek, School Choir, SAPSASA sporting involvement, Wakakirri, excursions and  links with the local community e.g. Community Garden, Community Library.
